rant 0001

quite a few years ago, i created a blog on blogspot dot com called crazyoldcoder dot blogspot dot com, but after finishing my first rant, appropriately entitled "rant 0000," i promptly forgot my password, and was unable to do anything further with it.  this has been a source of frustration ever since, but it is what it is.  some time ago, it finally occurred to me that i should start a new blog (referring to the first one, of course) with new lower-case rants, but i just didn't have the time for it.  fortunately, my employer at the time, all but a few of whose executives came up in the industry, had never had to run a business with making money in mind, so when the internet took off, their business - big printing - took a nosedive, and they have been unable to recover.  it's not really their fault, since once printing became automated in the middle to late 19th century, it was not possible to lose money in the business.  when a business has infinite access to cash, there is no need to economize, or even run the business rationally, because there will always be new buckets of cash available tomorrow.  there is 150 years of this behind all these executives, so the industry has little to no chance of recovery.

in any case, after 7 or 8 previous layoffs, they finally got me in a layoff in 2016.  the job i was doing required attention 24/7/365, and i had been working it for 13 years when i was laid off, so although i regret leaving my coworkers behind, i have never been as happy leaving a job as that one.  i tried to start up my own business in 2017, but that failed.  needless to say, i, too, am not a good businessman!

so now i'm a ward of the State, living off social security and working a part-time job at $10.00 per hour.  i have been looking for a job ever since i was laid off, but this has not panned out.  i have very bad eyesight, so although i am able to drive, i am unwilling to travel because i don't do well driving in unfamiliar areas.  furthermore, i won't move, because my adult children live in the area and will not be moving.  i was raised as an army brat, and i have no intention of moving from my home of 32 years.  it puts a tight limit on the jobs to which i should apply.

this time, i don't really have anything to say, other than to explain my long absence and recent new blog.  for the time being, i'm not going to bother with ads, because nobody will be reading these posts, either.  go to my first post, and leave your comments here if U like (not sure i can even see them if U post them there).  or not - your choice.
